Our Mission

Supporting & Encouraging Local Area Homeschoolers

SELAH of North Texas exists to encourage area homeschool families in their choice to educate their children at home.

Welcome to SELAH of North Texas!

We are so glad you stopped by to visit! SELAH is a homeschool support group -- we are here to share in your homeschool journey. Our group is volunteer-led, and we strive to plan a meaningful and fun year through supporting moms, planning regular park days, providing fun and engaging field trips and social events for you and your family, and organizing service projects. We are your support to build community and friendships to enrich your homeschool life.

We would love to meet you and for your family to join us! We do ask that new members attend one of our Mom2Mom meetings to meet us in person and get acquainted before joining. Check our calendar for the date of our next Mom2Mom meeting. Please email us for details if you're interested in attending.

Or simply click on the Join tab at the top if you're ready to join our group!

If you have additional questions, check out our FAQ section, or feel free to email us at [email protected].

SELAH’s foundation is the Word of God.  On that foundation are four cornerstones – the four areas that support our mission.

Everything else that takes place within SELAH is built on these cornerstones.  We encourage our members to take the lead coordinating activities for their children, inviting other SELAH families to join them on their journey.

Galatians 6:9 encourages us to not grow tired of doing good.  But what if the baby’s crying, Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons is not living up to its name, you’re conjugating verbs with your 5th grader, while trying to remember the difference between rational and irrational numbers before your 7th grader has a melt down?  Is it seriously possible on the long journey of homeschooling to not grow weary?  It is if you are surrounded by friends cheering you down the path to victory!

That’s exactly what you’ll find at our Mom2Mom meetings.

Our monthly meetings will provide the knowledge and encouragement you need to keep up the good work, as we discuss a variety of topics related to homeschooling.  Moms from all different stages of homeschooling will share their stories, their friendship, as well as large amounts of coffee and chocolate!  You will leave encouraged and refreshed, ready to tackle your homeschool tasks with renewed energy.

Email [email protected] for more details on the next meeting!

SELAH's History

In 2007, homeschool mom Angela Snodgrass wanted to fellowship with other area homeschool moms and put an ad in the quarterly Woodbridge neighborhood newsletter inviting homeschool moms to coffee at her house.  She wasn't sure anyone would attend. Twelve moms showed up, all searching for the same fellowship. Angela didn't plan to start a homeschool support group, but God had other plans.

Angela says, "'I only wanted coffee' became the running joke." She started with the name Woodbridge Homeschool group, but the group quickly grew beyond the boundaries of Woodbridge and SELAH was born:

Supporting and Encouraging Local Area Homeschoolers

Angela has a heart for encouraging other moms with the love of Christ and created SELAH to be a ministry with a vision for encouraging, equipping and supporting homeschool moms. SELAH has since been planted in Idaho and Colorado! Since Angela's move from Texas, SELAH of North Texas has been led by other homeschool moms who love the Lord and homeschooling.

In 2015, SELAH had grown to need more leaders and more formal organization, so on the advice of THSC representatives, a board of volunteer leaders was created, constitution and bylaws written, and the four cornerstones put in place in order to maintain a Christian foundation and guide the group forward, preserving Angela's vision, as other leaders continued the ministry.
